PUNKSUHATE

couturetapecoop:

How do you troll rappers? By randomly dropping their music video on a monday, without them knowing.

Punksuhate - Troll Face

dir. Dante Cope

Guess what? We made a video.

In five days, we’ll be trying a little experiment. Not a very rigorous one, though…we’re pretty sure you’re not supposed to test more than one hypothesis at a time.

Hypothesis: If everyone shows up on time and ready to work hard, it’s totally possible to have 20 or so creatives showcasing their work on a single event night.

Hypothesis: People will give generously of their time and money to support a cause that is local, relatable, and positive.

If all goes well, a ton of childishly dressed revelers will help a ton of sick and injured kids pass the time with toys and games while they wait to be treated at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

If all goes great, The Pyramid Scheme is gonna feel like a bouncy castle for seven straight hours.

Whatever happens, someone’s getting some free toys. That’s almost never a bad thing.

Visit punksuhate.bandcamp.com to hear the sound of what was, up until about three hours ago, the best-kept secret in Grand Rapids Hip-Hop.

Our EP is out, and it’s good, and you should go listen to it now. If (when) you decide you need to take it on the go with you, it’s only $5 online.

Or more, if you feel the quality of our music calls for it. Either way, give it a listen and share us with your friends if you feel so inclined.

On another note, tonight was amazing and so was everybody who enjoyed it with us. Our sets are always tight and well-structured, but this was the best performance we’ve put on to date.

We’re stoked that so many of you were there to see it. Powerfully United, indeed.

Recap: You rock always. So did we this particular time. There’s music you need to hear, and probably ought to buy.

So, yeah, go do that.

Once again, it’s punksuhate.bandcamp.com. Why are you still reading this? Go check it out.

Promises, Promises.

Ok. Oops.

We seem to be getting things a bit out of order. Apologies to everyone who keeps asking us for excuses to spend their money after shows. We spend a lot of time and effort planning, practicing, and performing our songs. We’re still working on posterity, promotion, and profitability.

Pinocchio is another word that starts with P, and we’d be lying if we told you we had a set date for releasing a recording of Full Circle, currently our most beloved anthem. Not to mention Fall Back, Get It Get It, and Fool’s Gold. But that’s our current focus: to have something more than a business card for you when you see us do our thing and want to hear more.

The air is getting colder and crisper, and so are our rhymes. Nights are getting longer, and so is the list of our accomplishments.

Leaves will be dropping soon.

We think you get the point.

The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just.

Lady Ace Boogie knows what it means to be Powerfully United.

Her new video for Underestimate Me plays like a love letter to Hip-Hop. Bringing together a handful of Grand Rapids’ illest MCs and producers, Lady Ace is all smiles as she celebrates the city where all the love is mutual.

And then she steps back and puts everybody on in the cipher outro.

A good artist can stand alone and prosper. A great artist knows when it’s time to find kindred spirits and find excellence through synergy. Lady Ace Boogie is a great artist.

Watch closely. She’ll be representing her brand of positive, energetic Hip-Hop over beats by local phenom Sir Manley (much more on him later) on August 25th at Rock the Rapids downtown. And she tells us there may be a few surprises in store, too. So come prepared to see a fresh variety of musicianship in full effect as she Ushers in headliners Big Boi and B.O.B.

She’s going places, guys. It would be wise to follow her.

If you were out in Eastown this evening, you might have seen Duke Greene (aka MC3PO) and Venson Dix jamming on acoustic guitar and soprano sax, blending music and rhyme to create special moments for bros, babes and bums alike.

That’s kinda what they’re all about.

Because PUNKSUHATE is all about Hip-Hop, but Hip-Hop isn’t just about beats and rhymes. It’s a community art form that shines brightest when performers are in tune to the vibe of their audience, playing thoughts and emotions like counterpoint melodies in order to get hands up and feet moving. Its that simple.

Don’t get us wrong. The 1s and 2s of this music form the foundation, but the foundation is necessarily underground, and we want castles, not bomb shelters. To build Hip-Hop Artistry Toward Excellence, we need to go a little bit further.

That means giving the people what they want. Tonight, they wanted folksy jams with a positive message. Tomorrow, they may want something else.

On that note, come see us set the party in motion at Billy’s Lounge tonight (Thursday, August 16) starting at 9pm. We’ll go first, and God help anyone who’s not having a great day as they hand over their $5 at the door. Because it’s about to get violent; we plan to rip those gloomies out of your soul and splatter them on the blackboard next to the drink specials.

Before you click back to stalking your ex or worrying about Presidential candidates, please swing by the Green Mitten’s page (link in post title) and bookmark it. They’re already kilometers beyond us when it comes to representing great local artists. Their shirts are well-designed, their artwork is masterful, and their ever-growing knowledge of the Hip-Hop scene makes them a great go-to for any fan who really wants to be in the know. We are Powerfully United with the Green Mitten guys as they continue to do big things for this city.

See you very soon.
